There will be a 2Pac Conference put on by the One Nation Committee in June 2000. This will coincide with his birthday. It is all going down here in the Bay Area and will be a good follow up to all the activism that took place around Prop 21. Folks are still fired up and gearing up to impact the Fall elections...More details on the 2Pac Conference to come in later issues..Boots and the Coup will be touring with Mr Puff Daddy himself when his tour hits the shores of Europe.. Wow Puff and The Coup on the same bill.. This could be a good thing.. Boots has a way of turning ordinary people into committed, fired up activists. During this last election, he got all sorts of thugged out, gold tooth wearing kids from the hood fired up about politics. Don't be surprised if Puff comes back wanting to run for Mayor.
Seems like there's a bit of controversy and confusion about who came up with the dance and gesture of 'poppin' your collar'. For those who aren't aware, poppin' your collar is the ultimate way of showing how bad you are. Nowadays its more then just a gesture, it's the most popular dance here on the left coast. Now the first record to ever come out was done by SF rappers San Quinn and Messy Marv who are collectively known as the Network. Two years ago they flipped the beat Cameo's hit song 'Strange' to illustrate this Bay Area born gesture. The first person to ever showcase it nationally was SF 49er Terrell Owens after he scored a TD last year. He went into the end zone and started popping his collar on national TV and it caught on with everyone and their grandma. After every 49er TD folks would start poppin' collars. As quiet as kept Terrell learned the move from a couple of our on air DJs when they was partying at a club. Nowadays we have at least three records or albums coming out with a 'pop your collar theme. Snoop is getting ready to release a song. MC Hammer is finishing up his album 'Pop Your Collar'. The person who invented it was E-40 and his brother Muggsy who are attempted to set the record straight. E-40 already performed it on BET. I'm sure his sista Suga T who will be on Live From LA tonite [Wed March 29] will follow suit . The next E-40/Click single will be 'Pop Your Collar'. The big question is who will be the one to take the bows for bringing it to the people. Lets hope that a dance like the 'Hustle' or 'The Freak' doesn't make its way back before the Pop Your Collar phenom takes off.. Ya gotta love the power and influence of Hip Hop..
